Melissa and I have the most PERFECT host family! After only a few days of living with them, I already feel like I am walking back to a place I can call home after school. They are the type of people who instantly welcome you and make you feel like you are truly a part of their family. When Raquel sees us after getting home from school, she screams “GIRLS!” and gives us both a huge hug. Tonight, they weren’t home during dinner, so they left some pasta on the stove. There were two pots of sauce – one vegetarian labeled “Emily” and the other with meatballs for Melissa. So thoughtful!
Unfortunately, yesterday the family was mourning the death of their smaller dog, Otelo. Otelo had been sick, and had passed away at three in the morning. The family was understandably very upset, since they have had Otelo since 2002. I am glad we got a chance to meet him before he passed away.
Today, the family was feeling a bit better! Raquel told Melissa and me that they would have a surprise for us tonight, and they came home with a new puppy! Jose says that no dog will replace Otelo, but Negra needs a friend! Raquel named him Poffy. (He is really puffy, and she said she came up with the idea from the cereal Reese’s Puffs).
We spent tonight playing with the newest member of the family, and tomorrow we are off to spend the weekend at Manuel Antonio, a national park and beach.
So happy you have such a welcoming host family! Am sure they are delighted to have you as a guest! Enjoy Poffy!
Love and prayers,
Naming my next dog Poffy officially. Can’t wait to hear more!
